Shift K3Y does it again
The way this tune starts just gave us that feeling that this was about to be a madness. Then the vocals came in annnnnd we was right!
Showing us that class is permanent, Shift K3Y is showing us that he has not lost a step with this super nice track, ‘Only You’. This track really does have it all from the lovely and smooth vocals by Mr K3Y himself to the lyrics that will infect your system and have you singing along to. This track is a sexy fusion of Soulful House and straight House no sub heading. The keys in this one are just so beautiful to listen to.
The only way to describe this song is sublime. This is what we expect from Shift K3Y as his catalogue dictates that we shouldn’t expect anything lower than 10/10 and we’re proud to say with confidence, Shift K3Y has once again delivered. You can shuffle to your heart’s content or you can chill out on a Sunday morning, ‘Only You’ has the ability to meet any feeling.
Extended Play or not to Extended Play. That is the question
This week we ask the question how important are EPs anyway? Those of you how share the Twitter love with us would have seen we've received some mixed responses to this question. With digital music dominating our life's nowadays and physical music a thing of the past are EPs still relevant?
I personaly like 5-6 tracks or at least 15-20 mins. It gives me enough to take in the mood, vibes, and even sometimes even understand the story that the that the artist / producer is trying to project to the listener. I love EPs— Anton Cullen (@Anton_Cullen) January 22, 2018
Back in the day an EP was a pre-release to an album or a way of showing off new work an artist or producer had been working on. With the self life of digital music being so short as we constantly search for the next big thing we suspect EPs could become a thing of the past, but to us music lovers, it's such an important thing to understand an artist's work.
We love a decent EP, do you? Let us know your thoughts. Join the debate below add your comments or share some social love. UHM out!
Example is back with this banger
Already apart of ‘New Music Friday’ on Radio 1 is this super sick track by Example as he marks his return with “The answer”. Produced by Diztortion, this one demands your attention
The Answer is the newest offering from Example whose career spans over a decade and is an embodiment of his new found happiness inspired by his wife and children, clearly reflected in the upbeat and positive vibe of the track. After five albums including the platinum-selling Number One Playing in the Shadows, two Number One singles, seven Top 10s hits which earned Example a Brit Nomination for Best British Single, countless festival headline slots consistently pulling in huge crowds and sell out arena tours, it is safe to say Example has got song writing down to a fine art.
2018 is set to be a remarkable year for Example and The Answer kicks it off with an energy fuelled bang. The body of work Example is set to release is undoubtedly his best collection to date, best described by Example himself as “a collection of songs I want to still be performing ten years from now.”
Chill Out Before The Christmas Rush
Is Christmas already becoming an issue? The rush of shopping becoming a bit stressful? We suggest checking out our super soulful track of the week as Matt Nash has delivered a really good blend of soulful / deep / up tempo music with “Let You Go”
Bringing a bit of everything for this release, Matt Nash has a hidden gem on his hands. From a smooth / soulful build up to a lively up temp like drop, this track is perfect for a de stress session. The vocals are just perfect for this beat as Georgi doesn’t over power the beat, instead just gracefully glides over it ensuring both elements complements each other perfectly. Not so much of a singalong crew desire but the lyrics are there to be sung and sung loudly.
To be able to fuse so much different elements into one tune is pretty sick. The trumpets for us are what give this track its extra umph. We suggest you check this one out and be prepared to add it to your library.
Dope Remix by Tom Demac
Giovanna is a bold, bohemian singer/songwriter with extraordinary takes on the ever-ordinary world. Bringing a combination of abstract electronic/dance sounds and glacial vocals, the artist has already picked up critical acclaim from Zane Lowe at Beats1, who made her previous release ‘Out In Bold’ his single of the week, calling her ‘A new and independent sound in a class of her own’.
2018 sees the release of Giovanna’s debut EP, headed by remixes of the project’s lead track ‘Dreamworld’. Following a huge introductory remix from one of the most prominent names in dance music in Flashmob (Get Physical, Defected), the second rework of the track comes from similarly heavyweight and innovative beatmaker Tom Demac.
The guttural techno he’s whipped up with Glimpse for Drumcode, or his recent remixes for the likes of Pet Shop Boys and Roisin Murphy give an insight into the north Wales native’s penchant for the exotic as well as his inherent quality control. He’s turned his gaze onto Giovanna’s original to create a gloriously spacey, subtly driving rework, adding layers of low-ebb grinding bass and soft, choral falsetto to create a jewel of a remix.
Giovanna has been working on her debut album with Liam Howe (Lana Del Rey, FKA Twigs, Ellie Goulding), Goetz Boetzenhardt (Faithless, Ella Eyre, Cinematic Orchestra) in London and Jochen Schmalbach (Klangkarussel, Goldfrapp, DJ Hell, David Guetta) in Berlin. This collision of high grade talent points to the reputation Giovanna is already forging for herself and should place her in the upmost echelons of exciting talent coming through this year.
Marking their first release of the year, Still Young’s latest single follows on from the success of their collaborative effort ‘Follow Me’ with dance heavyweight, Steve Angello. Exclusive to Beatport, the progressive house track has been in heavy rotation in Steve’s DJ sets and has become a fan favourite since it premiered last year. Set to build on their spectacular achievements into 2017, Still Young are gearing up for a remarkable year ahead.
The pair’s collaboration on ‘Tied Up’ is an exciting moment for both artists; showcasing the best of both their talents, the single looks set to build upon the broad fanbase that both The Magician and Julian Perretta share.
Meanwhile, Julian Perretta is a platinum-selling singer-songwriter - his single ‘Miracle’ hit #1 in thirteen countries - who has previously performed alongside Amy Winehouse, Marc Ronson and Beyoncé. After the success of his debut album ‘Stitch Me Up’ and single ‘Wonder Why’, Julian began to explore pairing his vocals and songwriting with electronic production, releasing tracks alongside Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Lost Frequencies.
As a DJ, The Magician has played at a diverse range of clubs; Pacha, Space, Ushuaia and Amnesia in Ibiza, Coachella, Output New York, The Warehouse Project and Amsterdam's widely respected now-defunct Trouw to name a few. Since launching Potion, he's brought the event series to Ministry of Sound, Showcase Paris, Exchange LA, Electric Brixton, New York's Webster Hall and more.
The Magician is an artist whose commercial success goes hand in hand with years of experience in the underground side of the electronic scene. His first EP, 'I Don't Know What To Do', came out via revered French label Kitsuné, before he went on to find widespread recognition from his remix of Lykke Li's 'I Follow Rivers'. An infectiously upbeat and catchy new version of the original, this remix now stands at almost 80 million streams on Spotify and reached #1 in five countries and #2 in four. After a number of successful productions via FFRR and Parlophone - including the huge Europe-wide hit with Years & Years, 'Sunlight' - he founded the aptly-named Potion label and event series on which he released last year's successful single 'Shy'.
'Tied Up' features warm chords and a soft bassline underpinning Perretta's distinctive voice, with piano chords and chopped vocals providing depth in the chorus. With lyrics alluding to a difficult relationship, the song is emotive yet dancefloor-ready.
'Tied Up' is the new collaborative single from respected producer The Magician and successful singer-songwriter Julian Perretta. Available now, the single marks The Magician's first release after signing with B1 Recordings, Ministry of Sound and Ultra for a worldwide deal with Sony Music.
Book A Ticket!
So as 2017 rolls on we find ourselves asked a question that made no sense. “Why do people go to festivals?” Most of you will laugh and some may be thinking the same thing but rather than assume the younger generations just go to festivals to do drugs and get away with nonsense, stop and think of all the positives festivals have to offer.
Festivals are a place where live music is in abundance. This is a music fans heaven with sounds coming from absolutely every spot of the area. As DJs don’t have residencies and instead to cameo appearances, Festivals make it ideal for fans to see their favourite DJ live in the flesh and create some great moments.
Of course its not all about the music for some. Some would say the younger generations don’t go out anymore and instead stayed glued to their phones. Well festivals break that bond and aid people coming out and socialising with one of the greatest communication starters.....music!
Going to a festival gives people the excuse to wear their best (or crazy) clothes out in public without being judged by people because they too will be wearing something a lil bright. And this we feel allows people to express themselves, this is something not possible while sitting in a bed looking a peoples snapchats!
So for us, the point we are trying to make is not to put a downer on Festivals. There are loads of them abroad and local and they are a place for peace, love, socialising and expressing yourself! If you have never been to a festival, try it out and see what we mean!
