House Legend Todd Terry Teams Up With Get Twisted Supremo's Tough Love For Their 100th Release
Tough Love celebrate the 100th release on their imprint Get Twisted Records in true style by recruiting one of the icons of house music, Todd Terry on the deep and twisted ‘When You Gonna?’, Out Now!
Todd Terry’s hypnotic vocal refrain “when you gonna play house music?” is deployed perfectly alongside the stabbing bass infused beats that keep building, before reaching a climatic peak as he exclaims, “no, this house music”
‘When You Gonna?’ presents the dynamic house style that has made both Todd Terry and Tough Love so revered - punchy beats, ultra-catchy vocal, alongside an acid house break, to deliver an unforgettable future dance floor classic.
London-based duo Tough Love have rapidly risen through the ranks of the house scene over the last six years. Their sound is instantly recognisable in their production and can be described as bass-infused house with plenty of ‘90s influences and hard-hitting grooves. It’s this infectious sound that won them 'Best Single' in The Bass Music Awards 2015 and saw them nominated for ‘Best Breakthrough Act’ at the DJ Mag Awards in 2016
Brooklyn-born Grammy Award nominated DJ/Producer Todd Terry needs little introduction. As one of the most celebrated figures in dance music and with a career spanning nearly three decades, he has worked with a diverse range of musical talent, from Snap! to Annie Lennox, The Rolling Stones to Bjork.
Todd Terry achieved two huge Top 10 crossover hits in the 90s through ‘Keep on Jumpin’ and ‘Somethin Going On’, whilst all the while continuing to break new ground with his remix and in 1995 his remix of Everything But The Girl’s ‘Missing’ became a worldwide smash. In 2007, he created the Todd Terry All Stars bringing together Kenny Dope, DJ Sneak and Terry Hunter releasing ‘Get Down’.
Todd Terry continues to command huge audiences across the world. He has previously released on Get Twisted Records with ‘Canibus’ in 2015, and last year’s ‘Cold Shoulder’ with rising producers Cormack & Simmelink.
Good things come to those who wait and the 100th release on Get Twisted Records was well worth the wait, so sit back and enjoy this latest banger from the label!
Fresh Off The Release Of His Latest Track 'Overcome' Louis Benton Caught Up With Us Exclusively
UrbanHouseMusic sat down with House Producer and upcoming star Louis Benton for a quick chat about his latest release on Get Twisted Records & what popping for the rest of 2017
So who is Louis Benton? I am a DJ/Producer from a town in the West Midlands called Kidderminster, which is between Worcester and Birmingham!.
What / who got you into music? Now there’s a story close to my heart! I first got into music at the age of 11 after my Dad, who was a funky house DJ, tragically passed away in a car accident. A few months later, his wife to be at the time, gave me his prized possession, which were his mixing decks. Since then my love for music has blossomed.
What / who got you into music? I’ve been writing and featuring on my own music for about 7 years, however I’ve been producing music using Logic for about 3 years now
Checking out your catalogue, we heard and loved ‘Ménage A Trois’. What are your musical influences? Haha, ‘Ménage A Trois’! The song written about a threesome! That song was written by a chap called Mr Limey! I sing in the chorus. That particular track was produced by the Bass Don, Chris Lorenzo.
My musical influences are my Dad for sure, and a whole heap of different artists. I get inspired to make a wide range of house music, from real dirty bass stuff, to uplifting euphoric stuff like ‘Overcome’. I have never been narrow-minded with music. I started off playing funky house for years, to being in a band, to playing & making bassline & jackin’, which has all lead me to and influenced the sound I have today. So, I guess my biggest influence is myself!
What was the thought process to creating ‘Overcome’? I wanted to create something euphoric, hands in the air sort of thing, using a synth sound over a bass, and lots of atmospheric pads that almost make you want to cry! I click with Malisha’s voice and find her really easy to work with. I get inspired to write a good track when she sends me a vocal.
How did the collaboration with Malisha Bleau for the new release ‘Overcome’ come about? Her vocals compliment the beat so well. It came as a follow up to ‘Virus’, and it has done a lot better. Her vocals are amazing. She gets it right first time as well! We didn’t have to re-record anything. She is a very talented girl and she holds it down well!.
We see you have a previous track with Malisha, ‘Virus’. Got any other tracks with her coming out? Virus’, yes, loved making that! We are in talks about doing another track together yes, you will have to wait and see! Haha.
Are there any artists you wish to work with down the line? Or any festivals you crave to tear down.. I’d love to work with more great singer/songwriters as Malisha is the first vocalist I’ve worked with. Being a vocalist myself, I’ve always focused on writing and singing the tracks myself, but to start working with other vocalists such as Malisha has been great. A person I’ve always wanted to get on a track is my sister Olivia - she has an absolutely amazing voice! And festivals, I hope to get on some nice festivals next year. I’d love to play at We Are FSTVL, Made, Creamfields… S**T, I’d love to play at them all! Haha. .
What is in the pipeline musically for Mr Benton? A hell of a lot more music, you can count on that. My mind is always ticking, so expect to see a lot more from me!

We Caught Up With Litek & rrotik For An Exclusive Interview
Off the back of their latest release on Get Twisted Records we had a chat exclusively with Litek & rrotik to find out more about the track, what's in the pipeline for the rest of 2017 and how the bassline on this track isn't illegal!!
How did the collab with rrotik come about and what was the thinking process during the production of ‘Faasti'?
rrotik came to the UK for a short production tour that his management sorted out for him and I happened to be on the list of producers. The session was somewhat spontaneous and we just got cracking straight away after brief introductions as he was on a tight schedule. We knew exactly what style one another produced and the track started building pretty naturally! We quickly caught a dark bassy vibe and ran with it
Who/What inspires you when producing your sound?
It honestly varies from time to time but I think my all time biggest inspirations are Timbaland and Scott Storch. I've always loved Timbaland's sound selections and his iconic rhythms. I find myself drawing inspiration from his sound in almost every production. And when I found out over the years that Scott Storch was behind most of my favourite R&B/Hip Hop records in the early 2000s, I was pretty amazed. Massive respect for both.
Who is rrotik for those who are late to the party?
My name is Eduardo and I’m from the city of Belo Horizonte in Brazil where I grew up listening to 70s to 90s music including rock, disco and house. I've been making music for several years under various monikers and rrotik is my latest project
For us, we heard some of your previous work like 'In Between' and love it. Dirty bass going on in that track. Can you tell us your fav rrotik track?
Obrigado! It’s actually really tough to pick a favourite because each of my tracks (originals and remixes) tell a little story about myself. But if I really have to choose, it would be ‘Woomp’ - my first release =) It’s from 2015 and it still sounds very fresh.
What was your thought process behind 'Get Up Everybody'? Because that track is an absolute banger!
Thank you, again! I was a big fan of Latroit and had the opportunity to remix a track of his before we jumped on ‘Get Up Everybody’. He came up with the vocals and chords that sounded pretty 90s and I brought the beats and basslines. It was actually hard for me not to bring the vibes down a notch to a deep and darker tone as my usual stuff, but I think I succeeded... I think!
What was the thinking process behind 'UBER’ and how did you join forces with Tom Zanetti?
I made the track in my uni room and it was a solid sounding club track but I knew it had huge potential if it had a strong vocal over it. Curtis heard a number of my tracks one night and it just so happened that he picked this one to write to. After the label heard the demo they were keen to get Tom involved. That's pretty much how it came about, and I couldn't be happier with the result.
We see in the past you released some dope stuff over at Simma Black, 'Your Skin' being one of them. What was the thinking behind that track?
That was a very fun track to make, I found the vocal and knew I had to build something around it. That's about it - usually that's how I make music - I'll go through samples and preview a bunch of different sounds and ideas before I settle on building around that component. Shout out to Low Steppa and everyone at Simma Black for signing the EP and also big up to Oliver Heldens for being one of the first to support that track too!
For us, 'Pot & Pans' is one of our favourite tracks. Do you have a personal favourite?
I think my all time favourite is UBER. I think the groove, the drums, the bass is a perfect example of my sound and what I aim to represent as LiTek - bouncy, sexy vibes that you can enjoy listening to and get down to in a club!
Who/What inspires your music ?
My struggles both as a creative and as regular dude just trying to work out life, becoming an adult, politics, morality, humour. Technique is a big turn on to me too. I absolutely love a masterfully designed bassline and have spent a lot of time in the past dissecting my favourite producers' tracks and understanding how the sounds were created.
What is the next step musically for you this year?
I've got a bunch of tracks that are being lined up for release and I can't wait them get it out. 'Faasti' was created in the UK last summer and so it's taken a whole year to release it, which is hard as I always just want to get my music heard and see the reaction. I'm also playing the Pagoda stage at Shambhala Music Festival in August, which is a life long dream and feels like a real seal of validation from the scene. It's going to be epic!.
Dont Forget To Check Out This Ridiculous Banger From Litek & rrotik below, we love this shit!
